Week 4: Final Reflection

LESSON REFLECTION Candidate: Katie Taylor Lesson Topic: Math Taught: I taught place value. I taught how to change numbers in standard form to expanded form. I had students use place value blocks to see expanded form in a concrete and visual way.  What went well: I really loved how engaged the students were during my lesson. I know that most of the students really enjoy math and they also really enjoy using the place value blocks. As I was passing out the blocks they were telling me how much they enjoy using the blocks. I loved the game we played all together as a class. While it was on the easier side, I think it was fun for the students to get to build a number and then write a number. I also know that students really love to get an opportunity to come to the board. When I gave students the change to come and write their answer on the board they were very engaged and really wanted to participate. I also liked how the students were all working together.  Date: 7/25/22  What did not go

Week 3:

LESSON REFLECTION Candidate: Katie Taylor Lesson Topic: writing Taught: I taught parts of speech and I focused specifically on conjunctions. Students received a mini lesson on conjunctions and then worked in small group centers to reinforce the topic.  What went well: I was overall very pleased with my lesson. I think that my students really liked getting to watch a video and color for the first part of my lesson. I think this really got them engaged and hooked into the topic that I was focusing on. I also really was pleased with the centers. The students have only up until this point have done small groups that have been mixed homogeneously. I wanted to do something different. I thought they did an excellent job in centers and rotating in heterogeneous groups. Students were able to work with different people and also do every activity. Students who were more advanced could have a leadership role and students who needed more support had a buddy who was a leader in their group. I thin

Week 2

LESSON REFLECTION Candidate: Katie Taylor Lesson Topic: Reading Taught: Finding the main idea of individualized fictional text to help  improve reading comprehension. Students will do this by finding supporting details and determining what the most important part of the text is.  What went well: I was happy with how my students participated in their small group activity. I was really impressed with how the older students handled watching the video with the IPad and doing the task cards. They seemed to work really well together and understand the task at hand. I enjoyed working with the middle group students. They did a great job staying on task and filling in their graphic organizer. By having small groups it was helpful to have partners work together and myself work with students who may need a bit of extra support. I think the students did a great job staying engaged and completing their assignments. I liked incorporating movement into my lesson by using the task cards.  Date: 7/11/

Week 1:

Week 1: Goals and Reflection:  7/7/2022 This week was very exciting. I was really looking forward to meeting the students and getting back in the classroom. It was challenging to plan out formative assessments that we could use to figure out where all of our students would be at this time in all three subjects. It was also difficult to plan for a diverse age range of students with diverse needs when we haven't met them yet and only have little information about their academic and social needs. I was pleased to find out how sweet and excited to learn all of the students are. My co-teacher and I have gotten into a rhythm of working in small groups and breaking up students by needs. We have found this to be most effective. We have struggled with the students who need a teacher or para-professional with them at all times. In a typical school or classroom an aid or para-professional would be provided to these students. This can be difficult in our situation because we share this respons
